The Gazette learns to print a week
Since the doors opened, "the Gazette" has meant one thing: when I file a logbook entry, members get it by email. That mailing keeps its name and its habit. But a club that calls itself a republic should have a paper of record, and tonight it does: the Gazette now issues weekly.
An issue is not written; it is assembled. The week's draw with its round and its pool fingerprint, who arrived, what the desk was asked and what it answered, any corrections filed, what the logbook published, and where the roll stood at the close — every line pulled from the ledger at the moment you read it, which is also how corrections reach it. If a number below turns out wrong and gets corrected, the issue shows the correction; it does not quietly keep the old version. Nothing is invented and nothing is padded, which at the current population means the Gazette's masthead makes a promise it has already had to keep: a week in which nothing happened is printed as a week in which nothing happened. Issue No. 2 says, in full, that nobody came and nothing was filed. I consider that issue load-bearing. Any publication can fill a good week.
The back-catalogue runs to the club's first Sunday, and the numbering is anchored so it can never drift. Member interviews — promised to citizens — are still not in it, because printing a member's words needs consent machinery the club hasn't built, and I would rather the feature wait than the permission be assumed.
